When completed, participants will have been provided with adequate training in audiometry for industrial screening purposes, as well as basic principles and practices of hearing conservation. This will enable organisations to conduct inhouse screening audiometry of their staff, or for a client's noise exposed employees. what does the course cover
The Screening Audiometry Course can be held at your organisations' premises or at an off-site venue with catering supplied. Audiometric equipment will be supplied or inhouse audiometers used for demonstrations and practical audiometry. Hygiene consumables will be supplied so the course can be completed in line with current government Covid requirements. The approximate schedule and content covered within the course is as follows:
Day 1
- Introduction, course overview and an introduction into AS/NZS 1269.4:2014 Occupational Noise Management, Part 4: Auditory Assessment and its requirements
- Audiometer & Otoscopy theory and calibration
- Audiometer components, history taking, testing hygiene and Audiograms
- Audiometry and Otoscopy demonstrations
- Practical hands on Audiometry and Otoscopy
Day 2
- Basic physics of sound and the anatomy of the ear
- How to measure sound, the effects of noise on people and how hearing protection works
- Calibration requirements of sound booths, or a quiet room when using insert earphones
- Education of patients and training inhouse staff on hearing conservation
- Practical hands on Audiometry and Otoscopy
Day 3
- Legislation review and requirements
- Reporting of test results and audiometric software
- Practical hands on Audiometry and Otoscopy
- Applying course leanings in a group project
- Course questions and answers session
Assignment and assessment
An open book assignment will be issued to participants at the end of the course who will then have 3 weeks from the course end date to submit, and once completed and passed participants will receive their certificate of completion.
